Willie Matheis is a local sax player who was brutally assaulted and in need of assistance for medical bills.

In early October, our dear friend and fellow musician, Willie Matheis, was the victim of a random attack while on his way home from a recording session. He went on to spend time in the ICU, then moved home to recover. We are happy to report that he is recuperating quickly, but he still has a long road of healing ahead.

His friends and bandmates are convening on Sunday, November 6 at Ford Food & Drink to play music, celebrate Willie (who will be making an appearance!), and raise money so he can recover fully without having to worry about lost income. The event is free and all-ages, but we will be happily accepting donations on Willie's behalf.

The line-up includes:

Ural Thomas & the Pain
Midnight Serenaders
The Stolen Sweets
DJ Cooky Parker
Tony Starlight
The Starella Sisters
Johnny Boyd
...and an epic jazz jam with some of Portland's best and brightest jazz musicians!

We chose to call this event "Much Respect" because it's the way that Willie ends all of his correspondences—and it's what we plan to show Willie on November 6! See you there!
