Vestal Social Justice Night is a culmination of Mary-Sue’s Montavilla Artist in Residency at Vestal Elementary. She will perform with her Sextet, featuring Jet Black Pearl (accordion), Bill Athens (bass), Dan Gildea (Guitar), Ken Ollis (drums) and Brian L. Davis (percussion).
The event is 5 - 8pm at Vestal Elementary. Free. The Quintet will play at some time during the event.
As one of eleven recipients of Metro’s Community Placemaking grant this year, Montavilla Jazz helped Vestal Elementary expanded their annual Social Justice Night in partnership with PSU’s Artist as Citizen Initiative. The community-wide celebration features collaborative artistic works – by both students and professionals – focused on two of Vestal’s five pillars of social justice: community diversity and family identity. On this special evening Vestal invites one of Portland’s most culturally, linguistically, and ethnically diverse neighborhoods to come together in celebration of social justice, art, food, music, and community.
