In Ellis Island: the Dream of America, Portland Choir & Orchestra presents a unique musical exploration of America and its growth as a nation of immigrants. Titled after Peter Boyer’s featured composition, this concert spotlights poignant Ellis Island stories from the late 1800s and early 1900s, set to a moving orchestral score and woven together with a variety of contemporary American choral works by composers including John Williams, John Rutter, and Dan Forrest.
In the months preceding the concert, Portland Choir & Orchestra is excited to connect this important piece of history with present-day American life through a series of hands-on service opportunities in a collaboration with JustServe.org, and several other partner organizations. You are invited to join with this force for good in extending compassion, aid, and assistance to refugees in our community, ensuring the dream of America can find those who seek it today just as in Ellis Island over a century ago.
